Panthers fire Dave Gettleman; Titans executive makes list of possible replacements

The Carolina Panthers fired general manager Dave Gettleman earlier today. It’s odd timing with training camp opening in just over a week. As you might imagine, Josh Norman was amused by the whole thing:

This is of interest to us, other than the fact that it is actual NFL news in the slowest NFL news period of the year, because Vinnie Iyer of the Sporting News has Titans director of player personnel, Ryan Cowden, as a potential replacement for Gettleman as Panthers GM. Here are Iyer’s comments on Cowden:

Cowden spent 16 years with the Panthers before he joined ace GM Jon Robinson in Tennessee in May of 2016. Like Dorsey, Cowden has a great reputation as a talent evaluator, and the Titans have made some terrific moves with younger and older players of late.

Cowden has been a popular name in GM searches over the last month. He interviewed with the Kansas City Chiefs before they ultimately hired Brett Veach.

It is really awesome that the Titans have a front office other teams are interested in poaching from.
