Today we continue our look at the Titans roster by looking at the wide receiver position.
The starters:
Corey Davis and Rishard Matthews are the starters on the outside. This has the potential to be the best pair of receivers the Titans have ever had. Davis was the 5th pick in the draft and has all of the potential in the world. Matthews is coming off a season where he posted 65/945/9 without a legitimate threat on the other side.
The depth:
Taywan Taylor is the next guy we will all be watching. The third round pick has been making a lot of plays in OTAs according to Jim Wyatt. He will be the slot receiver. Tajae Sharpe figures to be the back-up receiver on the outside, that is of course if can refrain from getting in fights with people (#allegedly) that point out obvious things to him. This has to be the year that Harry Douglas doesn’t make the roster, right? The only other guy worth mentioning here is Tre McBride. He has bounced back in forth from the practice squad to the active roster for the last couple of years. Can he stick this year? Eric Weems is listed as a wide receiver, but if he makes this team, it will only be as a special teams player.
Biggest question:
How good is Davis going to be? This offense is going to be really good. It will be elite if Davis ends up being the #1 receiver we all think he can be.
Who makes the week 1 roster:
Davis, Matthews, Taylor and Sharpe are locks. How many will they keep beyond that is the question. I bet they keep Douglas because Mike Mularkey loves him. Weems probably doesn’t make it because they are going to have options at returner. That leaves McBride as the biggest question. He will need a strong effort in camp.
