Why I’m a fan of the Tennessee Titans

Welcome to the refreshed Music City Miracles! To celebrate the new look and feel of our sports communities, we’re sharing stories of how and why we became fans of our favorite teams. If you’d like to share your story, head over to the FanPosts to write your own post. Each FanPost will be entered into a drawing to win a $500 Fanatics gift card. We’re collecting all of the stories here and featuring the best ones across our network as well. Come Fan With Us!

My story of becoming a Titans fan is a pretty simple one. I was a senior in high school in 1999. That was the first year of the Tennessee Titans (they had been the Tennessee Oilers the 2 years prior but they still didn’t really feel like out team playing one season in Memphis and one season at Vanderbilt). It was the first year they played at what is now Nissan Stadium. Back then it was named Adelphia Coliseum, which was so much more awesome.

The Predators are in the middle of an awesome playoff run. People around the hockey world are taking notice of great the atmosphere is at the Bridgestone Arena. Adelphia Coliseum was the same way in 1999. It was rocking every game. The Titans didn’t lose a home game for 2 full regular seasons.

Of course the Music City Miracle happened there in January of 2000. That got the whole city behind the team. It was a great time to be in Nashville. There were Titans fans everywhere you looked.

Steve McNair also deserves a ton of credit for me being as big of a Titans fan as I am today. I’ll be honest, I didn’t like him early in the ‘99 season, but he won me over with every magical play that he made during that year, and even though they came up a yard short in the Super Bowl (still not over that by the way), that final drive was where my love for Air McNair was really born.

You also had The Freak, Frank Wycheck and EDDIE! George that made that team so much fun to cheer for!

So that is my story of becoming a Titans fan. As I said above, please write a FanPost telling your story. You will be entered to win the $500 Fanatics gift card, which you can use to buy all kinds of Titans gear.
