State of the Titans roster: Quarterback

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Tennessee Titans Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

Over the next few days we will be looking position by position at the Titans roster to see what they have and where they could look to upgrade. We start with the most important position on any roster- quarterback.

The starter:

Marcus Mariota is on his way to being mentioned as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He made huge strides from year one to year two. The sky is the limit for him.

The depth:

The Titans currently have 3 quarterbacks on the roster in addition to Mariota- Matt Cassel, Alex Tanney and Tyler Feguson. Cassel is a guy the organization really likes. He did a nice job filling for Mariota last season. Tanney has been on and off the roster for the last couple of years. He looks like nothing more than a practice squad guy. Ferguson is a rookie out of Western Kentucky.

Biggest question:

Can Mariota stay healthy? This team looks to have the tools to make a playoff run, but that only happens if Mariota can stay healthy for all 16 regular season games.

Who makes the week 1 roster:

There is a 95% chance the Titans break camp with only 2 quarterbacks- Mariota and Cassel. They will probably sign either Tanney or Ferguson to the practice squad.
