NFL Draft Grades 2017: Examining the Titans third round picks

Pundits gonna pundit!

NCAA Football: Florida International at Central Florida Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Trader John went to work again tonight in the 3rd round. He moved up 11 spots with the Patriots to select WR Taywan Taylor from Western Kentucky. Then at with pick 100 he selected Jonnu Smith, TE, Florida International. They are adding a lot of weapons for Marcus Mariota.

Dan Kadar of Mocking the Draft gave John Robinson a C+ for his work tonight. I give Kadar an F for his ability to understand how great J-Rob is (I kid). Here were Kadar’s comments:

Taylor, who had great production at WKU, will be an excellent slot player for the Titans. He’s another weapon for Marcus Mariota to go along with first-round pick Corey Davis. Giving up a fourth-round pick didn’t make a lot of sense considering the other wide receivers available.

Smith is a movable receiver who can work inline, in the slot and coming out of the backfield to create mismatches. He’s a good athlete and plays with speed.

Pete Prisco gave Robinson a B for the Taylor pick and a C+ for the Smith pick. His comments on Taylor:

He was productive in an offense that throws the ball around. I like the pick here to get Marcus Mariota more help.

And Smith:

Pass-catching tight end who will add another weapon to the passing game. They have really helped Marcus Mariota.

Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated also had a B for Taylor, but he also had a B for Smith. I think Burke is my favorite writer tonight!
