The pre-draft visits and workouts are flying in. If you blink, you’ll miss one. The latest is from Tony Pauline, who reports that the Titans are in on Colorado corner Chidobe Awuzie.
This really isn’t surprising. Awuzie is near the top of a loaded cornerback class, which just happens to be one of the Titans biggest needs. The surprise is this — Pauline suggests that Awuzie could be in play as early as pick 18.

Awuzie tested pretty well. He excelled in short area drills an answered a big question mark with a 4.43 40 yard dash. The one thing he doesn’t have is length, which could make some believe that he’s a slot only type. Most seem to think that he could play on the inside or outside, however.
As I’ve said before, I hate the idea of picking a corner at 18. The gap between Awuzie and 3rd round corners isn’t all that great. After Marshon Lattimore the corner class really levels off. I’d much rather get a guy like Reuben Foster or Hassan Reddick in the middle of the 1st round rather than pull the trigger on a corner.
Regardless, the Titans are doing some serious homework on the cornerback class. I think there’s a safe bet that the Titans take one fairly early on draft weekend. Add Awuzie to the list of Lattimore, Conley, Elder, Cutrer and Sutton so far. I’m sure more will be added before this week is done.
