Titans Release Nose Tackle Al Woods

Unexpected development.

The Titans have release starting nose tackle Al Woods today, in a surprise move.

This leaves the middle of the defensive line vacant for now. Woods was the main man at nose for the Titans over the past two seasons, but the Titans may have a couple of options already on the roster to replace him.

Could we see Angelo Blackson or Austin Johnson take over? Both are depth at defensive end right now, but could probably beef up and at least take on some time at nose tackle.

This has been an underrated need for a few years — really since the team swapped from a 4-3 base to a 3-4. There are a few intriguing names on the market if Robinson wanted to fill the void through that avenue.

Brandon Williams, Dontari Poe and Johnathan Hankins are the top names, if the Titans decide they want to spend here. This is an unexpected move, but it was a spot where the Titans could honestly do a little better at. An upgrade here could give a big boost to the front seven and really bolster the run defense.
