Jim Wyatt is reporting that the Titans and Matt Cassel have agreed to terms on a new contract. Wyatt doesn’t mention any details on the contract. My guess is that it is another one year deal.
As Wyatt says in the article, Cassel is going to play a pretty big role in the offseason program. There is news that Marcus Mariota is progressing in his rehab, perhaps even ahead of schedule, but there is still little to no chance that will be able to take part in the OTAs.
It makes since for the Titans to have a guy like Cassel around to run those OTAs. They need a guy that understands the offense to help the rest of the players on that side of the ball get accustomed to what they need to do, where they need to be, and when they need to be there.
With all of that being said, hopefully we don’t see any game action with Cassel and the first unit in 2017.
[UPDATE]- Cassel’s new deal is actually for 2 years.
Backup quarterback Matt Cassel's new deal with the Titans is for two years. https://t.co/7EqLEs5LIJ
