The Titans have retained one of their two blocking specialist tight ends. Phillip Supernaw has agreed to a multi-year deal to stick around in Nashville. The team announced the move this afternoon.
Supernaw only caught four passes last season, but he made his mark as a blocker in jumbo sets. He’s a key piece of this offense and a much needed piece going forward.
Supernaw may be in for an expanded role with Anthony Fasano returning to the Miami Dolphins. At least one more tight end will be needed for the regular season. Could that guy be OJ Howard at 18? I think the loss of Anthony Fasano at least cracks that door open.
Tight ends aren’t really though of as a premium position, but they are in this offense. Howard would make some sense as a blocker and high upside receiver. Keep an eye on Iowa tight end George Kittle too — who dominated the combine and is a proven blocker. He could be a mid round option.
This tight end rookie class is deep — but keeping Supernaw around was paramount. He can help usher in a new body and fill Fasano’s role immediately.
