NFL Free Agency 2017: Will the Titans make a play for Alshon Jeffery?

FatShon will hit the market!

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported this morning that the Chicago Bears are not expected to apply the franchise tag to wide receiver Alshon Jeffery. At only 27 years old, Jeffery will be one of the more popular free agents, regardless of position, on the market. He has totaled 304 catches for 4,549 yards and 26 touchdowns in his 5 seasons.

There is no doubt in my mind that Jon Robinson and Mike Mularkey have at least discussed what Jeffery could bring to this team. However, there are 2 major drawbacks with Jeffery:

  1. He is a guy who has missed a lot of time with “soft tissue” injuries- hamstring, calf, those type of things. Those injuries tend to be recurring.
  2. He was suspended for 4 games last season for performance enhancing drugs. That means he will get 10 game suspension if he test positive again.

Those 2 issues will keep him from getting the type of money that someone of his talent would usually get on the open market. Will the discount be enough for the Titans to make a run at him? (Mike had a great write-up on Jeffery here.) Time will tell.

So what do you think? If you were Jon Robinson would you sign Alshon?
