We have been doing “theme weeks” on the SB Nation football blogs this year. This week’s is “best newcomer.” Now if you would have told me before training camp that I would have been writing this post after week 4, I would have bet money on this post being about Corey Davis, Adoree Jackson or Eric Decker...but Davis has been hurt, Jackson has been up and down and had returns called back for penalties and Decker just hasn’t done much.
That leaves Jonnu Smith as the Titans best newcomer. He only has 3 catches, but two of them have gone for touchdowns. Smith brings so much to the Titans offense. Like Delanie Walker, Smith is really good as an in-line tight end or split out wide. Some tight ends, ahem Jared Cook, give away what the play is going to be just by being on the field.
Smith’s role in this offense is only going to grow over the next few years. If you are in a dynasty fantasy football league, Jonnu is worth stashing on your bench. He will be an asset for years to come.
