NFL power rankings week 5 and the dreaded red arrow

NFL: Tennessee Titans at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

I don’t do power rankings anymore. If I did, I would be tempted to put the Titans 32nd after that performance in Houston. That is clearly an overreaction, but there were so, so bad on Sunday. Right now I feel like they won’t be able to stop anyone for the rest of the season. But hey, it’s the NFL where things change drastically from week to week.

With all of that being said, here is a look at where the Titans rank heading into week 5 of the 2017 NFL season:

ESPN: 19 (LW:10)

Pass defense was one of the Titans' biggest weaknesses last season, and it doesn't appear much has changed in 2017. Tennessee has allowed 11 passing touchdowns this season, tied for most in the NFL, including eight in the past two games. If Marcus Mariota's injury is serious, the burden will fall even more on the defense for Tennessee to compete.

SB Nation: 23 (LW:4) *That seems a bit dramatic

Get smoked by a division rival? Check. Get Marcus Mariota injured? Check.

Mariota is day-to-day with a hamstring injury, and if the Titans have to start Matt Cassel — who managed to turn the ball over three times in 18 plays against the Texans — there’s not a whole lot of reason for the Titans to expect Week 5 will be a bounce back.

Detroit Free Press: 19 (LW:12)

If we had to pick a team to win the AFC South, we'd probably still pick the Titans. But we just can't with them this week after giving up 57 points to the Texans. Next five games: Dolphins, Colts, Browns, Ravens and Bengals.
