Lambert and I did a bit of an offensive review on the podcast the other night (listen here). One of the things we talked about was the biggest surprise on offense from the first half(ish) of the season.
For me, it has to be the lack of involvement for Eric Decker. I was thrilled when they signed Decker. He seemed like a perfect fit for this offense. I never thought he would be a 100 catch 1,000 yard receiver, but it seemed like he would be huge on third down and in the red zone. That hasn’t been the case so far. He has 2 catches and no touchdowns on 5 red zone targets on the year.
Part of the issue is that Decker hasn’t gotten to play the role the Titans brought him in to play yet because of Corey Davis’s stupid hamstring. Davis is expected to be a full go after the bye. That will allow Decker to operate more out of the slot where he should be able to eat.
It is too early to call the signing of Decker a bust, but we are going to need to see his usage go up after the bye.
