Kevin Byard was named AFC defensive player of the week. This was a pretty easy call after Byard had 3 picks in Cleveland on Sunday. It is good to see Byard really coming into his own this season. We knew he had the ballhawking ability, he showed it in college, but he didn’t have any interceptions last year. He already has 4 this season.
The best thing about Byard is that he is a complete safety. In addition to his ability to play “center field,” he is also really good in run support. That is a combination you don’t find in very many safeties anymore.
