Fantasy football waiver wire week 6: You should have been on Jerick McKinnon last week

NFL: Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

This is actually a pretty good week on the waiver wire. We have a couple of running backs that will be assuming pretty significant roles in their respective offenses, and a wide receiver that looks like he is finally all the way back. Here is a list of guys that should be on your radar heading into week 6:

Jerick McKinnon has to top the list this week. You saw last night, if you could suffer through watching that game long enough, the explosive ability McKinnon has. He has an expanded role with Dalvin Cook out for the year. McKinnon isn’t going to get 20 carries a game, but he is an asset, especially in PPR leagues.

Speaking of PPR leagues, if you are in one of those you should add Elijah McGuire. It looks like Bilal Powell and Matt Forte are both going to be out in week 6. McGuire got 11 carries and 2 catches on 3 targets against the Browns on Sunday. Those numbers will only go up with both Powell and Forte out.

Cardinals WR John Brown is only owned in 41.6% of ESPN leagues. That number should be higher. He was in on 48 of Arizona’s 60 offensive snaps against the Eagles. The Cardinals throw the ball one million times per game*. Brown can be streaky, but as long as he stays healthy he will be in for some really big weeks. You might need him if you lost Odell Beckham Jr. on Sunday.

If streaming defenses is something you’re into the Falcons are the add this week. They are only owned in 12.9% of ESPN leagues and get a match-up with Jay Cutler and the Dolphins this week.

You could also look to the Buccaneers in deeper leagues. They get Carson Palmer and his aforementioned 1 million pass attempts*. He is good for at least and interception and a couple of sacks.
