Paul Kuharsky is reporting that Rishard Matthews had a clause in his contract that gave him another $250,000 if he caught 65 passes this season. Matthews caught 9 passes for 114 yards and 1 touchdown in the season finale. That 9th catch got him to 65 for the year and earned him a cool $250K.
Matthews finished the year with 65 catches for 945 yards and 9 touchdowns. Any NFL team would take that from a guy making $5 million per year, but when you put that in context of what the Titans have gotten from receivers they have signed in free agency in the past, it might be the best contract in the history of the world.
Jon Robinson, and Matthews of course, might have finally broken the Titans wide receiver curse. Now I just can’t wait to see Mike Williams come in here and make that curse something we barely even remember.
