According to various sources, the Indianapolis Colts are set to hire former Kansas City Chiefs’ Director of Football Operations Chris Ballard to be their new General Manager.
Titans fans may remember Ballard as a candidate for the same position with Tennessee around this time in 2016.
As a Titans fan, this is one of the worst-case scenarios. Chris Ballard notably played an instrumental role in the one-year turnaround of the Kansas City Chiefs a season after they finished 2-14. He gets a lot of credit for their pick of Marcus Peters.
Ballard worked for the Bears for 12 years before joining Kansas City in 2013, where he scouted such Pro Bowlers as Matt Forte and Charles Tillman. He was considered for their GM opening also, back in 2015 when they instead hired Ryan Pace.
If Ballard can impact the Colts roster in the same way he helped to swiftly improve the Kansas City Chiefs, it will make the Titans losing streak against their division rival that much more difficult to end.
Just as they were last offseason, expectations for the AFC South will likely soar in the coming months.
