Rishard Matthews most improved deep-ball receiver in NFL

Matthews was a huge addition in free agency last season.

There is a piece over at ESPN In$ider today that highlights Pro Football Focus’s most improved player in a bunch of different categories. One of those categories was “deep-ball receiver.” They gave that title to Titans WR Rishard Matthews.

Here were their comments:

In his final season with the Dolphins, Matthews saw just three catchable passes thrown his way on passes 20 yards or further downfield. He caught all three of them for 115 yards and two touchdowns. He saw 11 catchable deep passes thrown his way this season, catching them all for 388 yards to rank seventh in the league.

Matthews improvements on the deep-ball went hand in hand with Marcus Mariota’s improvement on throwing them. That was the one thing that looked shaky in Mariota’s game last year, and even through the first month of this season. By the end of the year it was a strength in his game.

I can’t wait until next year he is throwing the ball up to Mike Williams....
