The initial report on Adrian Peterson was that he might play this week, but at worse he would miss a week or two with a torn MCL. Well it turns out that he is going to have surgery on Thursday and could be out for the year according to Josina Anderson of the NFL Network:
Peterson has what is known as "bucket handle tear." I'm told that's a minm of 3-4 months out & up 6months usually. Again Peterson has faith.

Clearly, #Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, with his plans for surgery Thursday to repair it as he stated to me, will be missing multiple games.

As I said yesterday, if anyone can come back from an injury it is Peterson. He tore his ACL in December of 2011 and was 100% ready for the start of the 2012 season. All of that to say I wouldn’t drop him if I owned him in a league- even a re-draft. He could be back on the field before the year is over.
It will be interesting to see how the carries are divided up between Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the Vikings open up the offense a little bit. Sam Bradford played well in his first start and he has some weapons in Stefon Diggs, Laquan Treadwell and Charles Johnson.
