Avery Williamson had some special cleats made to wear in today's opener:
2 more NJ police associations join pledge to pay NFL fine if #Titans' Avery Williamson wears 9/11 cleats https://t.co/4ePrRmauoe @Tennessean

He was planning on wearing them in the game until he got news from the NFL that he would be fined if he did wear them. He decided after that, according to the Tennessean, that he didn't want to be a distraction so he wouldn't wear them:
"I don’t want to draw negative attention, so I’m just going to focus on playing the game," Williamson told The Tennessean on Friday. "Once I heard from them, I didn’t even try to argue anything. I just left it alone. I didn’t want to press the issue."
Well now, 4 police unions from New York/New Jersey have said they would pay Williamson's fine if he wears them in the game.
I really respect either decision Williamson makes here. I understand him not wanting to take away from the football game, but at the same time, it is cool for him to honor all of the men and women that lost their lives that day. And remember, that is what this is about- those people that died on that day trying to save the lives of others. It is not about anything that is going on today.
I just want to take this time to say thank you to all of the public servants that dedicate their lives to protecting us, and thank you to all of the men and women who have defended our freedom in the past and the ones that are doing it currently.
