The Titans picked up win number two on the pre-season tonight in Oakland, beating the Raiders 27-14. It was a night where Mike Mularkey showcased his franchise quarterback, Marcus Mariota.
Mariota and the starters went for a full half tonight, putting up 20 points in their 30 minutes of work. Mariota was the story tonight, going 9-16 for 170 yards. He got things rolling early with a short pass to Tajae Sharpe, who turned up field for a 61 yard gain.
The Titans were able to punch it in from there by way of DeMarco Murray.
Mariota came back with a few strikes downfield to Andre Johnson -- who looked like he wasn't done quite yet. He was the Titans' leading receiver tonight, catching three balls for 65 yards.
Derrick Henry was solid once again, but didn't get in until late in the second quarter. He received 12 carries, putting up 49 yards and a score on the night.
Defensively, it was more of the same. The secondary struggled across the board, starting with Antwon Blake who was burned by Michael Crabtree. Jason McCourty fell victim to Amari Cooper, giving up a deep score in the first half.
Sean Spence made a huge splash tonight, blowing up DeAndre Washington and forcing a fumble. David Bass scooped it up and scored on the play.
Kalan Reed and LeShaun Sims both showed up late, each forcing an interception. Reed undercut a route and picked off Matt McGloin while Sims batted a ball into Cody Riggs' hands.
Overall, it was more of the same. It was great to see the Titans back up their rushing attack once again. Marcus Mariota is only going to benefit from this, despite what the national media's narrative says.
The Titans will round out the pre-season against the Dolphins, then will kick off the regular season in just two weeks against the Minnesota Vikings.
