Titans training camp position battles: Checking in on the wide receiver rotation

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

One of the more interesting things to watch in this year's Titans training camp is the receiver position. The Titans have a lot of guys there that have flashed potential at times but haven't panned out when it comes to playing football that doesn't matter. Jon Robinson was obviously not satisfied with the depth at the position. That's why he added Andre Johnson.

So far free agent addition Rishard Matthews and rookie Tajae Sharpe have been getting the reps with the first team. Sharpe made a really good impression on the coaching staff during mini-camps and has been solid in camp so far. Kendall Wright has been the slot receiver with the 1s, but will probably miss some time with a hamstring injury that he suffered today. Harry Douglas filled that role after Wright went down.

Now, it is early, but it is pretty disappointing that Dorial Green-Beckham isn't able to get on the field ahead of Sharpe. DGB has the highest ceiling of anyone in the group. He had a rough first day of camp but has rebounded nicely. Hopefully he can put it all together and win the starting job.

A lot of people have speculated that Johnson is just a camp body. Don't be surprised when he makes this team. People point to his down year last year to say that he is done. Well he had 41 catches last year. That would have led the Titans receivers. He is also a really valuable resource for DGB and the other young receivers in the group.

I didn't mention Justin Hunter here. I'm pretty sure he misses the cut at this point.

Keep an eye on these guys as camp continues and the preseason begins.
