My assumption heading into the offseason program was that Byron Bell would be the Titans starting left guard when the season opened. He played decently well at tackle last season and had the most experience of anyone in the competition. Now, with his season over because of an injury, the competition is wide open.
Jim Wyatt was asked a question about Brian Schwenke's chances of winning the left guard spot in his weekly mailbag feature at Titans Online:
....he’s (Schwenke) actually gotten some work there in the OTAs. I wrote about Schwenke last week at Titans Online. He played three years of guard in college. Right now, he said he’s still working his way back to 100 percent after last year’s injury, but he’s getting closer. I think he’s a valuable swing guy in the middle, but a lot of big guys are in the competition.
This is a competition that probably won't be decided until training camp, but it is worth watching as practices continue.
