There was always some level of curiosity about the relationship between Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton and Titans defensive guru (or whatever his title was) Dick LeBeau last year. I assumed that LeBeau was calling the plays...but as they say...you know what happens when you assume. It turns out, according to Paul Kuharsky, that Horton was still calling the plays last year.
This revelation came today when Titans LB Avery Williamson was on The Midday 180 (a show where PK is a co-host). Here is part of what Williamson had to say about the relationship (again, per PK):
Coach LeBeau knew that coach Horton was the man in charge. They respected each other very well," Williamson said when I spoke to him on The Midday 180 in Nashville. "Coach LeBeau, he let coach Ray have his time. At the end of the day, (Horton) was the D-coordinator and I think he did it in a very respectful way. He’s a man of class, both of them are. Coach LeBeau never stepped out of his lane and coach Horton never did either.
It will be interesting to see how the defense looks different this year with LeBeau calling the plays.
