Titans Sign Wide Receiver Rishard Matthews

Titans add another weapon on the offense.

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans have made another free agent signing--this one being former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Rishard Matthews. Matthews had somewhat of a breakout year in 2015, and was one of the hotter free agent prospects at the position. While he had a strong year, Miami had too much money tied up at other positions, and had just drafted Devante Parker prior to his breakout. So, the Titans were able to cash in.

In 2015, Rishard Matthews caught 43 balls for 662 yards. In Tennessee, that would have led the team by a large margin. Matthews is certainly going to be a solid addition to a very lacking wide receiver room. The Titans were in desperate need of adding a receiver. He brings a skillset to the room that is more crisp, polished, and pure from a wide receiver standpoint, as opposed to Kendall Wright, Justin Hunter, and Dorial-Green Beckham's more raw skillsets.

Wide receiver was an incredibly weak point on the Titans offense last year. It will be very interesting to see where Matthews falls on the depth chart. Mike Mularkey did not exactly have glowing reports for "DGB" and Justin Hunter has had an extremely disappointing career, and that was before his injury. Both Hunter and and Wright are entering the last year of their contracts, so this move should signify the beginning of the much needed turnover at the position. I would expect the Titans to still draft a receiver, increasing numbers, and hopefully, skill at the position.
