2016 NFL Free Agency Rumors: Titans expected to be in market for Olivier Vernon

Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports expects the Titans to be in the market for the services of Miami Dolphins DE Olivier Vernon. The Dolphins tagged Vernon with the transition tag last week. That means Miami would have the right to match any offer an opposing team made to Vernon. It would not cost the Titans, or any other team, anything other than a contract to sign him.

Vernon was a third round pick of the Dolphins in 2012. He has 29 sacks in his 4 seasons in the NFL with his highest sack total (11.5) coming back in 2013. He has been a 4-3 end in Miami his whole career but would probably play outside linebacker with the Titans.

The Titans have 2 very good outside linebackers in Derrick Morgan and Brian Orakpo, but there is no doubt they could use some more help at the position. They have no depth behind those two guys. The pass rush fell off in a huge way last year when Morgan went down with a shoulder injury.

Vernon is the guy who had the dirty hit on Marcus Mariota that sideline the Titans QB for a couple of weeks with a sprained MCL.
