It appears that Michael Griffin's days with the Tennessee Titans have come to an end. Griff tweeted this out just a few minutes ago:
I knew one day my time would come and I cherished every minute of it. It's been real Tennessee✌. Thanks for everything. #nextchapter— Michael Griffin (@MikeGriff33) February 9, 2016
Griffin has spent the entirety of his 9-year NFL career with the Titans. He was the team's first round pick back in 2007. Griff's time with the teams was a roller coaster ride. He was really, really good when he had a good supporting cast around him. He struggled when he didn't.
Griffin was due to be paid $6.5 million in 2016 in the final year of his deal. The Titans have plenty of cap room, but there was no reason to pay him that much money with the way that he had played the last couple of years. If Griff can find a place with a strong defense around him, he might be able to play for a few more years. There is no doubt the ability is there.
UPDATE: John Glennon of the Tennessean has confirmed the release:
