Report: Peyton Manning has told close friends he is retiring

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that Peyton Manning has told close friends he is retiring. This really isn't a surprise. Peyton has played pretty well since he returned from a foot injury, but you can tell that he is at the end of his rope. He has really only been effective this year when he has had significant rest between games.

This is relevant to us because of the rumors that Manning wants to get into the administration side of football when he does retire. The hope for many here is that he will end up with the Titans when that time comes. He has roots in the south and his wife is a part owner of the Memphis Grizzlies. It makes sense from that standpoint.

However, don't rule out the scenario where he could end up working for the Cleveland Browns. His ties with Jimmy Haslam, who owns the Cleveland Browns, go back to his days in Knoxville. The Haslams are huge UT boosters.

My guess is that the Super Bowl is Peyton's last game. He probably won't announce it right after the game, but in a couple of weeks he will make it official. Then Peyton Watch part 2 will be ON.
