Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported earlier today that the Bears are still undecided on whether or not they are going to use the franchise tag on WR Alshon Jeffery:
#Bears tidbit: Assumption has been they'll tag WR Alshon Jeffery. I'm told no decision has been made & there's a chance he hits the market
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 19, 2016
The Titans should be camped out at Jeffery's place days before free agency opens if the Bears don't use the tag on him. He would make everyone on the offensive side of the ball instantly better just by being on the field.
My gut feeling is that the Bears do end up tagging him. Jeffery struggled with injuries last year, but he is a top 10 receiver in the league when healthy and is still only 26 years old. You don't let a guy like that just walk away.
So far no team has used the franchise tag on any player. The deadline for teams to do so is March 1st.
