Marcus Mariota was nothing short of brilliant in the Titans 47(!)-25 win over the Packers on Sunday. He finished the day 19-26 for 295 yards and 4(!) touchdowns. In the last 6 games he has thrown for 1,557 yards and 17(!) touchdowns. You keep hearing things like, “Mariota is the first Titans quarterback since Steve McNair to.....” It won’t be long until you hear things like “Mariota just did X that no quarterback has done in franchise history.
He is currently on pace to throw for 3,499 yards and 27 touchdown passes. To put that in prospective, McNair threw for 3,215 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2003 when he split the MVP award with Peyton Manning.
Over the last few weeks there have been some people foolishly saying that Mariota isn’t a franchise quarterback. Those people obviously haven’t actually been watching him play. There have been some ugly turnovers, but his overall game is almost at an elite level. He has even improved his deep ball as this season has gone along.
The Titans have their franchise quarterback. Anyone who doubts that should probably find a different team to root for.
