NFL trade rumors: Titans talking to 49ers about Torrey Smith?

NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Chicago Bears Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports

There are some rumors swirling out there that the Titans have talked to the 49ers about WR Torrey Smith. I wouldn’t hate that move, depending on the price of course. Smith is a guy who can take the top off the defense- something the Titans offense really needs to get to the next level.

Interestingly enough, the Titans still haven’t made a roster move after the announcement that Andre Johnson was retiring. People were speculating on Twitter earlier today that AJ decided to retire now because the Titans were about to make a trade. That could make sense, but I hadn’t seen anything credible about it until someone said that ESPN’s Josina Anderson was talking about it earlier today.

Smith signed a 5-year $40 million contract before the 2015 season ($22 million guaranteed with $8 million of that being signing bonus). That is a pretty big contract, but the Titans have plenty of cap room to spare at this point.

Smith has 13 catches on 32 targets this season. Now those are not very good numbers, but keep in mind that he has been playing with Blaine Gabbert and Colin Kaepernick- not exactly Hall of Fame quarterbacks there.

If Robinson could swing this for a 5th or 6th round pick I would be all in.

The NFL trade deadline is today at 3 PM central.
