Chip Kelly Interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Chip Kelly was fired by the Philadelphia Eagles before week 17 of the regular season.  It was a swift fall from grace for Kelly in Philadelphia.  You know, absolute power corrupts absolutely, and all of those things.

Well it has been all quiet on the Kelly front until the announcement that Kelly interviewed with the San Francisco 49ers yesterday.  There was a lot of Colin Kaepernick trade to the Eagles talk by that national media during the year because Kap seems like the type of quarterback that Kelly would love to have run his offense.

I know there are a lot of people here that hate Chip Kelly.  I would say the jury is still out on him as a head coach.  He was really good for 2 years in Philly but things changed when he got total control.  Steve Underwood made it very clear in his press conference that the Titans will have the traditional structure of a GM and a head coach.

I don't hate the idea of Kelly in that situation, but if I were interviewing him I would need to be convinced that he learned some things from what went wrong in Philadelphia.  Of course that was the same thing that I said when Ken Whisenhunt was hired, and we all saw how that worked out.
