As roster cuts continue to pour in--the "final" 53 man roster is due at 4 P.M. ET--the Titans continue to make moves. One of the more notable moves is the team releasing wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. They took a chance on him and gave him a shot in camp in hopes that he would return to his old form. While he started strong in camp, he quickly fizzled. Combine that with no special teams ability, and you have the team moving on.
According to Terry McCormick, the team currently plans on keeping just four wide receivers at the moment. Presumably, those four would be Kendall Wright, Harry Douglas, Justin Hunter, and Dorial Green-Beckham. The Titans must not have been satisfied with the depth at the position, and may be keeping their eyes on the waiver wire for tomorrow.
While Nicks was released, McCormick also noted that the team may bring him back after week one. This is a typical move for veteran players, because their contracts are not fully guranteed after the first game, unlike if the team had simply kept him on. It is a situation to keep an eye on. It is tough to imagine the team only keeping four wide receivers for good.
Stay tuned throughout the weekend as the Titans continue to make moves along the roster. The team is still working and there should be much more news to come today and tomorrow.
