It was a short night for Marcus Mariota, but it was a productive one too. Mariota went 2-3 on the night, finishing off with a short pass to Harry Douglas that went the distance. It was clear that the coaching staff wanted Mariota healthy for next week, immediately yanking him after just one brief drive.
Mariota opened the game with a quick strike to Delanie Walker over the middle. The ball was out in the blink of an eye and had plenty of zip to it. Marcus then came back to Dorial Green-Beckham, but the ball was low and a touch off target. It was still catchable, however.
Then Mariota found Douglas on this play.
This play wasn't anything too special, but watch Mariota's head. Watch him roll through his progressions. Look how quickly he pops through them. The play itself worked to perfection as the two drag routes essetially set picks for each other. Douglas came free and turned on the jets.
We didn't learn too much about Mariota tonight, but the touchdown was a great example of where Mariota is at mentally. Again, the play was nothing too special, but Mariota has looked extremely comfortable from day number one. His overall preseason performance exceeded my expectations.
Mariota's final preseason stats: 21-30, 326 yards, TD, INT.
