Don't call for Ken Whisenhunt's head yet.

Why it is crazy to freak out right now.

Christopher Hanewinckel-USA TODAY Sports

I know it is an emotional loss and that everyone is ready to condemn Ken Whisenhunt for some questionable late game calls, but let's take a step back. There is only one thing that I wanted to see this season: can Whisenhunt adapt to Marcus Mariota's skill set and make him a successful NFL quarterback. If you watch the game, you have to say that he is doing that.

Take a step back from today's loss and look at what the Tennessee Titans are right now.

-They were two big lapses in coverage away from keeping the Colts offense to 14 points.

-The front seven consistently made life hard for Andrew Luck, something that they haven't been able to do his whole career.

-They made big splash plays including two picks and a strip sack that the Colts recovered.

-Also, you have to remember that the two big pass plays were to T.Y. Hilton over Blidi Wreh-Wilson and Phillip Dorsett over Marqueston Huff. I firmly believe that when Jason McCourty is in that neither one of those players will be matched up with those guys again.

-Marcus Mariota looks amazing right now despite having a banged up OL and a group of skill players that aren't making things easy for him. Compare him to Jameis Winston's career so far:

Jameis Winston: 678 yards, 54% completion percentage, 7.5 YPA, 4 TDs, 3 INTs

Marcus Mariota: 833 yards, 67% completion percentage, 8.6 YPA, 8 TDs, 2 INTs.

So basically Mariota is blowing Winston out of the water and that is in large part thanks to Ken Whisenhunt spreading out the offense and molding it to fit Mariota's skill set.

-Antonio Andrews and Jalston Fowler (if he is healthy) look like very solid inside runners, while Dexter McCluster and Bishop Sankey have all had some pretty good moments on the ground.

-Outside of that, he has made the smart decision to get rid of Andy Levitre and has somehow turned an offensive line that has injuries and isn't great at anything into an offensive line that for the most part is doing good things.

I know that everyone is frustrated and that no matter how I spin it, the Tennessee Titans are 1-2, but they have also scored more points in their first three games than they did in their first five games last year. They are looking really good on offense when Mariota gets time, and it looks like a lot of the defensive woes can be fixed when Jason McCourty comes back next week.

The Titans are tied with the other three teams in the AFC South with a 1-2 record and this season is far from over. The Titans just competed and should have beaten a team that won 11 games last year and that blew out the Titans by a total of 68-27 last year. So while it may be a moral victory, this team is moving in the right direction and Whisenhunt has to be given some credit for that.
