While much of the discussion today centers on Marcus Mariota's tough first half, there were a couple of rookie QB records that our rookie QB laid claim to that should be pointed out (h/t titansonline.com) :

  • Mariota became the first QB in NFL history to throw for 6 TDs in his first two games. Of course, it's worth pointing out that the group of QBs tied at 5 TDs aren't exactly a murderer's row There were four previous quarterbacks with five touchdown passes in their first two games: Johnny Green (Buffalo,1960), Greg Cook (Cincinnati, 1969), Mark Rypien (Washington, 1988) and Gus Frerotte (Washington, 1994)
  • Through two games, Mariota has put up a 129.9 passer rating, which is the best of any QB in the post-merger era through their first two games.

I think we'd trade both of these records to be 2-0 right now, but those are mighty nice production marks for a QB who has gone through one week of heaven and one week of hell already.

And if you're looking for a little more historical solace after Sunday's loss, check out the open letter NFL Hall of Fame QB Fran Tarkenton wrote to Mariota after week one!
