NFL Power Rankings Week 2: The Marcus Mariota Effect

New, comments
Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Last year I did power rankings every week.  It was an exercise that I ended up really hating.  There are a million people out there doing power rankings that are smarter than me, so this year I will just take us around the power rankings on the internet that I find interesting and highlight where the Titans rank in said rankings.

SB Nation: 27 (LW: 32)

ESPN: 23 (LW:30)

The Titans scored 28 points in the first half Sunday with Marcus Mariota at quarterback. They scored 28 points in an entire game just once last season (Week 5 vs Browns).

CBS: 23 (LW: 25)

Marcus Mariota was sensational in his first game. But the next step is sustaining it. He has that look, but time will tell.

FOX SPORTS: 21 (LW:27)

All aboard the Marcus Mariota hype train. While Mariota’s first game was impressive on an all-time rookie debut scale, the defense deserves some of the spotlight too. Free-agent acquisition Brian Orakpo made his presence felt, and the new-look defense under defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau passed their first test with ease.

Pro Football Talk: 25 (LW:30)

For the second straight year, the Titans managed a big road win to start the year. They’re hoping the rest of the season turns out a little better than 1-14.
