3 big things to watch for in today's Tennessee Titans scrimmage: defense

What to watch for today.

Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

The Tennessee Titans are entering their first game-like experience today in a scrimmage against themselves. With a 90-man roster, there are plenty of bodies to go around and there should be a lot of competition, especially among the bottom half of the roster.

The team will be in full pads and this is where the bullets will really start to fly.

Here are my 3 big things to watch today for the defense.

Brian Orakpo vs Taylor Lewan:

The Tennessee Titans haven't had a young talented pass blocker in a long time, and they also haven't had a veteran edge player who is versatile enough to stop the run and the pass. However, in Taylor Lewan and Brian Orakpo they may have both which would be an incredible boost to this team.

Now, Orakpo hasn't proven he is healthy and Lewan hasn't been elite over a long stretch of time, but either way this should be a great battle of veteran skills vs physicality and technique.

Zach Brown and Avery Williamson blitzing:

Don't expect Dick LeBeau to just sit back and let the Titans offense methodically work the ball down the field against him. I wouldn't be surprised if he sent 7+ players on the first play of the game just to set the tempo. Zach Brown and Avery Williamson should be a very good linebacker tandem in the middle and it will be interesting to see just how much he brings those two today.

Interception watch:

While this team has picked off Zach Mettenberger, they have yet to get one off of Marcus Mariota. With added pressure and Delanie Walker out of this game, this would be a great time for them to get their first interception off of the rookie. If he doesn't throw a pick, it is a much bigger testament to how comfortable he is in this offense than an issue with the defense.
