Jason McCourty injury update: Titans CB had groin surgery today

Jim Brown-USA TODAY Sports

Jason McCourty has been sidelined with an groin injury since he second week of camp.  Ken Whisenhunt announced at this press conference this afternoon that the CB underwent surgery today on his groin.  The surgery went well.  There was apparently a "slight tear" (easy for someone else to say) and Whiz wouldn't rule McCourty out of the opener.

The Titans open the season a little bit less than 3 weeks from today.  Playing the opener would seem to be a long-shot for McCourty at this point. Whiz said they went ahead and did the surgery so the injury wouldn't bother him all season.  It would have been nice if they would have made that decision a week or two ago.

This means that you have Coty Sensabaugh starting opposite Perrish Cox for now with Blidi Wreh-Wilson still sidelined.  That probably gives Sensabaugh a leg up on the competition with BWW to start in week 1.  An ailing McCourty also all but assures Cody Riggs a spot on the roster when the team breaks camp.
