Report: Titans interested in Evan Mathis

He would absolutely be an upgrade.

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans are still having trouble with their offensive line.  They have been shuffling it around this entire week with Andy Levitre being pushed to the second team.  They need help on the line, and Paul Kuharsky says the Titans are monitoring what is going on with free agent guard Evan Mathis. (That link takes you to the ESPN homepage.  Kuharsky's comments are on the right-hand side under the "NOW" heading)

Here is what Kuharsky said there:

The Titans are monitoring what's going on with free-agent guard Evan Mathis, source tells me. I suspect interest could intensify if first team isn't better Sunday versus Rams. Also not a bad message to send to guys in Nashville now who need to play better.

Things are not going to get better on Sunday. The Titans don't have the talent they need up front, and the Rams are very talented on the defensive line.  The Titans would be crazy not to at least kick the tires with Mathis.

Mathis was cut earlier this offseason by the Philadelphia Eagles where he was due to make $5.5 million.  That seems pretty cheap for a guy that was an All-Pro in 2013, but who knows what Chip Kelly is doing up there.
