I really wanted the Titans to take Dorial Green-Beckham in the second round. In fact, he was my pick for the Titans in the second round of the annual SB Nation writer's mock. I said in that post that he would have been a top-5 talent without the issues off the field, and I really believe that to be true. The problem is, of course, that he does have the off the field issues. So what are the Titans getting with DGB?
I spent a lot of time reading up on Green-Beckham over the weekend. If you want to do the same, there are 2 really good articles- one from ESPN The Magazine and one from Bleacher Report. Those 2 articles give you a lot of background on how DGB grew up. He had to overcome a lot of things that weren't his fault, and was eventually adopted by a family that was really good for him.
He got to college, away from that family, and made some mistakes. He admits that, and to his credit, he hasn't been in any trouble since he was dismissed from the football team at Missouri. He spent a semester at Oklahoma, and from what everyone there has to say, was a model citizen who worked his tail off....even after he found out that he wouldn't be eligible to play.
He is going to be raw after not playing in a game for more than a year, but the kid has ability and will be a really good player if he can keep his nose clean. In two years we will either be talking about him as the steal of the 2015 draft, or just another name that goes along with Tyrone Calico, Paul Williams, and Chris Davis. Green-Beckham will be the one that makes that decision. I am pretty confident that he has it figured out, but I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
