We discussed some of the changes on defense this season, and outside of the addition of Marcus Mariota, there are plenty of questions as to how this receiving corps will be deployed. Theoretically, the team did a whole lot to boost the depth of a unit that was horrid last year. Poor QB play factored into their struggles, but it was a unit that was lacking for talent and depth.
This season, Dorial Green-Beckham figures to give the Titans a true big-bodied "X" receiver that they have been missing for some time. Does that bump the leaner Justin Hunter to flanker? Or do they compete for the "X" role? The answer to that question affects a lot of what the Titans will do with the entire group. For instance, if DGB plays the "X", do they bump Kendall into the slot or do they have him primarily man the "Z" role? If they go with the latter of those options, it seems likely that Hunter and Beckham will split snaps, and Harry Douglas will feature more from the slot.
We haven't even talked about Hakeem Nicks either. While he's not a world beater, he gives the Titans another experienced down-field option. Late round pick Tre McBride is also in the mix for snaps, and was highly regarded coming out of school. Ken Whisenhunt has the tools to stretch this offense vertically in 2015, and he has Marcus Mariota to orchestrate. Will this increased talent and depth out wide lead to more wins next season?
