Between The Posts: Defensive Rally

Did the Titans do enough to leave their defensive woes behind?

Don McPeak-USA TODAY Sports

The Titans focused heavily on their offense during the recent NFL Draft, but the status of the defense will have an equally important impact on the teams 2015 fortunes. The team used free agency to add talent like Da'Norris Searcy and Parrish Cox to reinforce a thin secondary. They also went out and added a boom-or-bust free agent linebacker in Brian Orakpo, and brought back Derrick Morgan, whose play quality was high in his first season as a stand up OLB. Sophomore players like DaQuan Jones and MarQueston Huff could also make some noise this season. The line has a special talent in Jurrell Casey, and some rotational pieces in Ropati Pitoitua, Karl Klug, and Sammie Hill. And the teams inside linebacker group could go from proverbial worst to first, with promising sophomore Avery Williamson paired with the athletic Zach Brown.

The team now has some backup brain power to put it all together in Dick LeBeau, who figures to right the ship alongside Ray Horton.

A lot of optimism is contained in what I have penned above, but the reality is that this defense was a liability last season. Can the increased talent and coaching bring them back to relevancy? Only time will tell, but LeBeau has already been talking about his plans to right the ship. As opposed to prior seasons, LeBeau also seems to understand the talent and types of players this defense has, and how to put them in the best position to succeed. If anyone was going to come in and "fix it", it would be LeBeau.

Do you think the Titans did enough this Summer to remedy their defensive issues?
