Mike Mayock only does one mock draft per draft season, and it is always the night before the NFL Draft. He has correctly predicted the second overall pick every year since 2008. Well that mock is out, and he as the Tennessee Titans drafting Marcus Mariota with the #2 overall pick. He originally mocked a trade to the New York Jets involving Muhammad Wilkerson, but said that he changed his mind at the last minute. There has been a lot of speculation that the Jets are interested in Mariota, but there hasn't been much buzz about them making a move. Mayock went on to say that he was hearing that the Jets actually wanted to trade down, instead of up. Another potential trade partner very well could be removed from the fold. If you want to see the entire mock draft, you can find it here.
With the 2nd pick, Mayock has the Titans Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon. His comments on the pick:
Critics say the "Oregon spread" doesn't have progressions, doesn't have reads. That's a misconception. Zach Mettenberger was a sixth-round pick last year but he has first-round talent. However, he also has off-field issues. If a team is drafting somebody at No. 2 overall, that team is expecting him to be ready to go Day 1.
If this were to actually happen on draft day, there is no doubt that the Titans would have majorly upgraded their football team. By finding a franchise quarterback, they have something to build not only their offense, but their whole team around. With Mayock slotting Marcus Mariota as the best quarterback in the draft in his eyes, the Titans get a steal here. We will see what happens soon enough.
