A month ago almost every mock out there had the Tennessee Titans taking Leonard Williams. It was getting quite boring. Then something happened and the conversation shifted. Everyone became convinced that the Titans, or someone with the #2 pick, would take Marcus Mariota.
There are still some people, however, that think the Titans will go with Williams. One of those people is Scott Wright of DraftCountdown.com. He has put out a new 3-round mock draft that has the Titans taking Williams with the second pick. With all of the hype surrounding Mariota or trading the pick, I have to admit that I am going to be really disappointed if the Titans simply take Williams.
Here is what Wright had to say about the Williams pick:
It appears as though the Titans are prepared to stray from what I’ve dubbed the "Golden Rule of the NFL Draft", which states that unless you already have a franchise quarterback you don’t pass on one. Zach Mettenberger is undeniably talented and showed some promise when forced into action as a rookie but there are reasons why he slid to the late rounds and his last two seasons have ended prematurely due to injuries. With that said it appears as though Tennessee is inclined to spurn Oregon QB Marcus Mariota, who isn’t the prototypical pocket passer that Ken Whisenhunt tends to favor. This is a perfect example of where ownership needs to step in to ensure the people in charge are making decisions based on the best long-term interests of the organization. Coaches are a dime a dozen but the opportunity to land a potential stud quarterback doesn’t come around very often. It’s difficult to make a case against USC DL Leonard Williams though, who has drawn favorable comparisons to Richard Seymour and is arguably the premier prospect in this class...
Wright has the Titans taking Nelson Agholor, WR, USC in the second round. This is the first time I have seen him mentioned this high in the draft. Wright's comments:
Naturally athletic playmaker with a polished all-around skill set to complement Kendall Wright.
Remember when that was Justin Hunter?
In the third round, Wright gave the Titans Donovan Smith, OT, Penn State. His comments:
Massive bookend to pair with Taylor Lewan since Michael Roos retired & Michael Oher was cut.I hope they can find that guy in the 5th or 6th round instead of the 3rd.
What are your thoughts on this mock for the Titans?
