The Tennessee Titans haven't had many great players in the last 15 years, but one of the best of that shortlist has to be Kevin Mawae.
The longtime Titans center was an anchor for many of the Titans best teams, and was a force on a team that survived by running the ball. According to National Football Post, the former Titans thinks very highly of a player that could be a future Titan. That player is La'el Collins, an offensive lineman from LSU, and here is what he had to say on the topic:
"I’ve been around the program and I know him personally. He’s a big guy and he moves well for his size. He’s big and thick through the upper body and moves really well for a really big guy. Everybody thinks he’ll be a high first-rounder with the kind of athlete he is. I’ve been asked by guys in the pros what I thought about him.
He has great intuition and athletic ability. I think he would be a solid inside guy who could play both guard spots and he’s athletic enough to play tackle. He’s got length in the arms that would tend to allow him to play that position. He’s definitely a finisher. He’s a mauler. You watch the film and he’s more of a road grader than a finesse player. He’s got solid technique. Staying an extra year solidified his draft position. He will put his helmet on your and strike you."
If the Titans trade down in the draft, maybe this is a player that they could take a look at. They have been shopping for offensive line help in free agency at both guard and tackle, and it is clearly an issue. If the Titans made a trade with the New York Jets, St. Louis Rams or even the Cleveland Browns, Collins could be in their range.
If the Titans are really committed to running the ball and taking the pressure off of Zach Mettenberger, then this could be a great way to imitate teams like the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys.
