Kevin Acee of the San Deigo Trabune wrote and article about Philip Rivers. In that article he talked about how Rivers is doing in his rehab and his plans for the future. That is what 99% of the article is about- Philip Rivers.
However, there is one paragraph in there that has the Twitterverse all in a tizzy:
Meanwhile, there are questions and brewing speculation that the team might be preparing for a future without Rivers. Numerous people in and around the league have speculated that the team could be serious about acquiring Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, whom they are scheduled to work out next month.
The Chargers pick 17th in the first round. They are going to have to trade up to get him, and to be safe, they would have to move all the way up to #2. That, in case you didn't know, is where the Titans pick.
People are now speculating that the Chargers would be willing to pu together a package to move up to #2 that would include Rivers. The connection does have some logic behind it. Rivers had one of the best seasons of his career in 2013 when Ken Whisenhunt was his offensive coordinator. There is little doubt that Whiz would be in favor of acquiring Rivers.
It would be interesting to see what it would take for the Chargers to move up from 17 to 2- even in a package that included Rivers. The Titans would still need to get multiple picks in return, in my opinion.
There probably isn't anything to this rumor, but this rumor is really good for the Titans. This is at least the third team- the Eagles, Redskins and now Chargers- that is reported to have interest in moving up to get Mariota. That means the value of the Titans pick keeps going up.
