Rams Trade Sam Bradford to Eagles for Nick Foles; Is That the End of the Marcus Mariota Rumors?

The Philadelphia Eagles moving up in the 2015 NFL Draft to take Marcus Mariota has been the hot rumor. Does acquiring Sam Bradford from the St. Louis Rams kill that buzz?

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

It was announced earlier today that the Philadelphia Eagles traded Nick Foles and a 2016 second round pick to the St. Louis Rams for Nick Foles and a 2015 5th-round pick.  It was a move that shocked a lot of people because they foolishly think that Bradford cannot run Chip Kelly's system.  Keep in mind that Sam Bradford ran a spread at Oklahoma, and the fact that Kelly is going to tailor his system to fit his quarterback- something Ken Whisenhunt should take notes on.

Anyway, does this end rumors that the Eagles want to trade up for Marcus Mariota in the 2015 NFL Draft?  I am sure that it will for a while, but I don't think it should.  Bradford is a free agent after the 2015 season.  Kelly might hope that Bradford is his long-term solution, but it would be foolish to count on that with Bradford's injury history.  It is more likely that Bradford is a one-year plan....maybe to help bring Mariota along.

Now Kelly has one less 2016 draft pick to bargain with, but that wouldn't prohibit him from trading most of his 2015 draft and the first round pick in the 2016 draft if he really does want Mariota.

There might have been nothing to the rumors that the Eagles were going to trade up for Mariota all along, but I don't think this move necessarily kills the chance for Kelly to do it.
