In Dan Kadar's latest mock, he has the Titans trading with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles, of course, come all the way up to #2 to draft Oregon QB Marcus Mariota. The Titans fall all the way down the #20, but they get the Eagles entire draft in 2015 and a first in 2016.
This is a high risk, high reward scenario for the Titans. It is a big deal to drop back 18 spots, but it makes a lot of sense if you don't love a player at 2, and when you have a roster than needs a lot of talent. This would allow the Titans, IF they drafted well (which is a big if), to re-tool the roster fairly quickly.
They still probably wouldn't be good in 2015, so they would have a high first round pick in the 2016 draft. The Eagles 2016 pick would probably be in the 20s or later, but 2 first round picks is better than one.
Anyway, Kadar has the Titans taking Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State. Here were his comments:
Without question, there is an incredible risk moving down 18 spots in the first round. But it can be argued the Titans’ biggest need is fixing a defense that finished 31st in the league in run defense. Even by dropping back this far, the Titans should be able to find a good defensive lineman to help up front. Goldman has the size and strength to occupy multiple blockers, but enough quickness to be lined up at end in a three-man front.
I would be good with this pick.
Kadar also has the Titans trading back into the first round to select Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA. I hate that move. Here are Kadar's comments:
The trade would be Tennessee sending Nos. 33 and 66 to Green Bay to move to No. 30. This is similar to what the Vikings gave up to get Teddy Bridgewater last year. There is much less risk in taking Hundley at No. 30 than taking Mariota at No. 2. Tennessee still has a stockpile of picks to reload the roster and a quarterback that could be groomed into a Ryan Tannehill-type player.I get that there is a lot less risk with this pick than Mariota at #2, but Mariota is a lot better. It also doesn't seem like Hundley is a Ken Whisenhunt-style QB.
