Marcus Mariota is going to be so very good. I have to say that to myself a couple of times a day to make it through this season. Mike Sando of ESPN put out a list of the quarterbacks that are the best in the clutch. Mariota comes in at #2 on that list behind only MVP SCam Newton. Here is the criteria Sando used for "clutch:"
I've defined clutch situations as fourth quarters and overtimes when the score was tied or the quarterback's team trailed by one score (eight or fewer points).
Mariota has a 84.4 QBR in the clutch. His stats are 34-of-55 passing for 353 yards with three TDs and two INTs, plus 90 yards rushing per Sando. Here is what he had to say about Mariota's performance in the clutch:
Signature moment: Take your pick. Mariota's 87-yard rushing touchdown to take a late lead against Jacksonville is tough to overlook. Mariota also threw the tying and winning touchdown passes in the Titans' 34-28 victory at New Orleans in Week 9. He completed 15 of 17 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns against the Saints when the situations fit our clutch criteria.
Stud!
You know who isn't clutch? Blake Bortles. His clutch QBR is 29.5. That ranks 26th!
